USAGE: Perlite is particularly beneficial in clay soils, which tend to be compact and have poor drainage. It is also used in container gardening, heavy soils, garden beds, and for seed starting. A standard ratio is 1 part perlite to 2 parts potting soil, using up to a 1:1 ratio for plants that need even better drainage, such as succulents.
